3 Reasons to Go Diesel
Since everyone is looking to save money, you might have noticed an increase in the amount of motorcycles and scooters that hit the road once the gas prices began to rise. If you don’t want to ride a bike to work, what are your other options? Diesel is actually becoming a smart choice for those who want to save some money on their fuel expenses. Websites like Edmunds and CarsDirect offer up some great advice on why you should go diesel. Take a look below at some of the highlights about why diesel is better for you and your wallet.
1. Fuel Economy
A diesel car or truck offers up a huge 20 to 30 percent better efficiency when it comes to guzzling fuel. A diesel driven vehicle will use less fuel than other comparable vehicles that do not use diesel. With fewer trips to the pump, you will begin to notice a decrease in the amount you spend on gas immediately. The New Beetle offers up a 50 mile per gallon trip; that means you can drive from Ohio to New York and never have to stop for gas. Some people say that the more they drive their diesel vehicle, the better the mileage and performance they get. Gasoline engines seem to wear out, whereas diesel engines seem to wear in, making them more efficient in the long run and of course more durable.
2. Durability
As with any vehicle, proper maintenance will help keep the engine runner longer. Diesels have proven to handle more than 250,000 miles without any major issues if given the proper maintenance. As stated above, many people claim that the more they drive their diesel vehicles, the better they perform.
3. Performance
A diesel engine is capable of more than a gasoline engine and it actually has more pep to its step. If you want something that allows for a quicker take off, diesel is the engine for you. The engines are also designed for towing; a diesel can handle a heavy load much better than a gasoline engine car or truck of comparable size and weight. You will find that even manufacturers that state their gasoline engine trucks are designed for towing will offer the larger sized trucks in a diesel style engine.
The noise and pollution has been an issue in the past for diesel styled engines; that is not the case today. The engines in these vehicles are much cleaner and much quieter than they used to be. The engines are still dirtier than the gasoline engines and the emissions offer up a smell that some love and some hate. The fact that the diesel engines have a stronger smell coming from their tail pipes than the gasoline engines doesn’t matter; they still put off less carbon dioxide into the air since they burn less fuel.
