Who but BMW could

Man vs. the sun. It’s a battle as old as time itself. The heat of the sun is great in small doses – but turn up the volume, and it can make people, places and things downright ornery. But mankind has ways of fighting back – like putting air conditioning in car.

But even a car must eventually park. And when it does, all that chilled air slowly dissipates. The refreshingly cool oasis morphs into a leather-lined oven, waiting to greet the unsuspecting driver with a blast of hot air as soon as he opens the door.

Convertible owners who leave the top down when running errands often drape large towels over the seats, to keep the seats cool when wearing shorts. It’s an effective – but crude – answer to a common problem. But BMW realized they needed to come up with a better solution.

And they did: Sun-Reflective Technology, a unique concept you would expect from a company committed to great ideas. Instead of being a new way to cool off hot seats, Sun-Reflective Technology keeps seats from becoming hot in the first place by defecting the infrared rays of the sun. Without absorbing rays, the seats don’t heat up as much.

In fact, Sun-Reflective Technology is able to reduce the surface temperature of dark-colored upholstery by up to 36°F. Occupants remain comfortable, and BMW designers don’t have to worry about car seats that look like portable beach How did scientists counter the wrath of the sun?

They discovered a chemical that reflected infrared (IR) radiation of wavelengths greater than 720 nanometers – the same length IR rays that are absorbed into the upholstery, making it hot. By adding this chemical into the color pigments used to dye the leather that covers the seats, armrests, headrests and gear shifter, these surfaces stay cooler.

Even light- colored leather upholstery with Sun-Reflective Technology stays up to 27°F cooler than untreated surfaces. Interestingly, convertible owners weren’t the first BMW owners to benefit from this discovery; it was first used in black leather BMW motorcycle wear.

After all, it can get very warm under the sun in a black leather suit. But thanks to BMW Sun-Reflective Technology, BMW riders can now feel as cool as they look. Sun-Reflective Technology is included with leather-upholstered interiors in BMW 3 Series and 6 Series Convertibles for 2008.

A motorcycle Salvage Auction: Useful guide

motorcycle salvage auction industry as well as any other business which involves advertising and purchasing of salvage cars is promising to become more fashionable due to the income and financial opportunities it can propose to the owners of motorcycles and would-be buyers. In case you have not understood the main idea of this sentence, you will surely understand the details while reading more – the significance of a motorcycle salvage auction – and the important profit that each interested member can obtain from participating in it? Maybe you have some idea of the fact that used cars or new cars sales business is only small drop in the whole ocean called auto sales manufacturing as salvage auto and motorcycle salvage auction business in common obtains great recognition amid those customers who desire to save money or those who cannot just buy new cars in the salons and those consumers who are not ready to spend their money to buy used cars with expired mileage. So this is the reality when salvage vehicles with salvage titles but still with impressing characteristics and in a good condition can save time and money and helping to solve the problems when it comes to buying a used or sometimes a damaged car which is lower in price. If you are not familiar with the notion, salvage vehicles and salvage motorcycles in particular are vehicles which were declared to be totaled by insurance companies. These very companies refused to spend extra money on repairs due to high costs. To make this decision, these companies compared the real value of this vehicle with the future cost of reconstructing.  The situation is quite clear with these vehicles; these salvage title bikes will be resold to any motorcycle salvage auction. This is the way the insurance company is compensating some amounts of money to previous owners of the vehicles and paying off claims losses. One can understand the huge demand for salvage motorcycles. The vehicles are not always as damaged as it is thought. But in many cases they are severely damaged. The reasons to give to a motorcycle a salvage title could be very various. The bike has been stolen and recovered by the national authorities. They are still in very good condition and are sold at very low prices due to salvage titles they have now.

There are many recommendations that you can freely use when buying a salvage motorcycle. For one`s convenience, numerous facilities offered at any official and legal, and what is more important, public motorcycle salvage auction or any online resources collaborating with any motorcycle salvage auction to be found in your region can help you a lot in purchasing the motorcycle you fancy. The subsequent instructions will be very supportive if you are ready to take up a salvage motorcycle by engaging into a public motorcycles salvage auction. First of all find the top and the neighboring salvage yard of your area. Though it doesn’t have to indicate you necessitate using the services of the first salvage yard you will drop in the internet. phone books and internet can assist you in selecting few possible salvage yards and only then you will have to make your decision to which to go by comparing their provided services, offers and charges. Some critical information at different forums could be really useful in creating the full picture of market offers in your head. The information from the clients of these motorcycles salvage auction could be used also. The contact with a certain salvage yard could make you feel confident in what you chose. Make sure they work with insurance salvage vehicles, salvage bikes in particular and have a lot of them in their vehicle list.

You will be offered to register as a potential client with this salvage motorcycle yard. We can’t say that this process is too problematical but you should keep in mind that every salvage yard as well as a motorcycles salvage auction can have its own rules concerning the registration procedure. A motorcycle salvage auction and salvage yards even might charge a registration fee for one year. Provide them with your contact data in case they will handle to find some motorcycle parts or a salvage bike which is not in their list at the moment. Read carefully all the presented information at the website not to get into tricky situation. study your partner. Visit the salvage yard directly. Contact brokers and find out with them. Discuss with them your intensions concerning purchasing salvage bike and listen to their recommendations. Create a full picture in your head of the selected salvage yard. Full inspection of bikes will be necessary before the auction starts. Make sure you will be able to do all the necessary repairs afterwards. Check on a possible damage.

The Best GPS for Motorcycles

The Best GPS for Motorcycles

Here are three of the best GPS for Motorcycles; they are Garmin products as they have been designed by motorcyclists for motorcyclist, sturdy, waterproof.

The Garmin Zumo 550 has an 8.8 rating out of 10 from over 200 reviews and the Garmin Zumo 660 has a 7.2 rating from 35 reviews and the top of the range Garmin Zumo 665 has a 7.6 rating from 17 reviews.

Garmin 550 v’s the Garmin 660

I have a Zumo 550 and it was with interest that I helped a friend install his Zumo 660. After taking two road trips in the car and working with the 660 I have some comparisons to make to my 550.

Let me predicate my review as it is based on the 660 Firmware update 3.20 that came out towards the end of July of 2009.

1. The 660 doesn’t display all street names when browsing the map. I found my friends house using the where to button and it showed the house but none of the street names (including his street name) surrounding his house. The zoom level didn’t matter.

2. Won’t follow the route you specify in Map Source custom route download.. The 660 will recalculate the route you download so there is no guarantee that the route you enter on your computer will be followed by the 660. You have to really get into the habit of using waypoints.

3. Construction of the 660 is like a nuvi. In fact, I think it is a modified nuvi. The USB connection on the 660 can only be accessed by removing the battery cover (which then causes an annoying message to appear that the battery cover is off) There is no tether for the cover, so if you lose it, guess what? All GPS functions are disabled! The 660 only works in GPS mode with the battery cover attached. The screen feels like soft plastic when you touch it. In comparison the USB connection on the 550 is behind a hinged door, and it doesn’t matter if the door is open or closed. So even if you break the door, the 550 still operates as a GPS. The 550′s screen feels more like glass to me. In my opinion – for fit and finish – the 550 is built like a brick house, the 660 – not so much.

4. The 660 doesn’t come with a 120v charger adapter like the 550 does. Both the 660 and the 550 will recharge with the USB connection but if you are planning a trip with your 660, you have a limited amount of battery power because if you plug in the USB cable to recharge it – it enters the USB Mass Storage Mode. The 550 will operate as a GPS plugged into a 12v source (cradle in car or bike) or the 120v adapter (like at home or your hotel room.)

5. The 660 utilizes a micro-sd card. The 550 uses an easy-to-handle standard SD card. The SD card in the 550 can be plugged into your pc’s card slot and read like a disk drive. The micro-sd card is so darn small, and inconvenient to get to, (you have to remove the 660′s battery to get to it) it’s hardly worth the trouble.

6. Never saw the lane change notice feature. Apparently none of the freeway interchanges we went through were programmed into the 660.

7. Even at maximum volume in the car, the 660′s internal speaker was barely audible. This is a serious problem. You have to have all other music in the car off in order to hear the 660 through its internal speaker when using the car mounting. The external speaker in the 550′s auto mounting gives you plenty of volume and can be heard over other noises in the car.

8. 660 don’t have the screen change/flip/page button like the 550. You can toggle between screens by hitting the box button on the side of the 550 repeatedly. I find that a very useful way to navigate around the system. I could not find an equivalent key or process on the 660 to do the same thing.

9. On the 550 – touching the turn in xx miles portion of the nav map screen, the unit repeats the last verbal instructions again. I could not find an equivalent key or process on the 660 to do this simple task.

10. It may not matter to you, but the 660 is not integrated to work with XM radio and weather. The 550 will support XM and Weather if you get the GPX 30 antenna receiver and pay the subscription service.

CONCLUSION:
I still feel that after handling both units, the 550 is a true motorcyclists GPS, it does everything I ask of it. The 660 can be, but as stated elsewhere, it got released before all the bugs were worked out of it. It needs work.

It is interesting to me that Garmin is playing the field with the 660, the 550 is still a cataloged product, and is still for sale at most dealers. I don’t know if they plan to phase out the 550 if and when more 660′s are sold.

I do know that I’m very happy with my 550 for now and will watch Garmin to see what firmware updates they provide to address the shortcomings for the 660

Zumo 665 motorcycle GPS has a motorcycle-friendly navigator with stereo Bluetooth, XM satellite radio, weather, and traffic. Take a ride on a new route and explore the open road with the zumo 665, whether you’re on a weekday ride just across town or a weeklong trip to an annual rally with friends. The zūmo 665 also includes a carrying case, vehicle mount and power cable. It’s like having two full-featured navigators for the price of one.

Featuring a bright 4.3″ touch screen color display, the zumo 665 puts all the information you need in an easy-to-read format as you travel down the road. The zumo 665 also has a glove-friendly intuitive interface that makes entering information as easy as shifting gears. In addition, the wide sunlight-readable display makes for easy navigation – whether you’re riding during a bright day or a moonless night. And with a rugged waterproof case that resists fuel sprays and UV rays, the zumo 665 was built for life on the road.

V.I.N. Vehicle Identification Registration For Auto Traders

Trading or upgrading your auto. An Auto trader?

The number stamped on the drivers side of your new vehicle’s dash can sure help you out a great amount in identifying the car, truck or vehicle , its past history , travels and origins – whether if be a domestic auto product – a Chevy , or an import such as a used Honda automotive product.

The term V.I.N. is short form of “Vehicle Identification Number”. It’s a unique number that is assigned to your vehicle – be it car, truck, S.U.V., van truck, motorcycle or any other vehicle. Each and every V.I.N. is unique to each vehicle being assigned by a strict government approved nomenclature system

In order to register a vehicle, especially a new vehicle, you will need its V.I.N. In order to insure your vehicle ditto. If your car is stolen it may well be tracked down and identified by this unique listing – it’s V.I.N. If you are in the market for a vehicle and do a vehicle history search – All the major online and governmental systems – even your vehicle service records , as well as any submissions and requests to obtain auto financing all rely on the V.I.N. system as their very basis and starting points. It all comes down to those simple numbers stamped on your vehicle’s dash – that specific vehicle identification set of numbers and letters .How else could the system work if each vehicle did not have its own unique identifying number? Through such automated systems you can quickly and accurately determine vehicle history since new – a list of owners , any accident reports , has the car been involved in a major accident , been written off , been in a flood , have liens or charges against it , as well as many additional concerns for auto buyers ,financers , and dealers.. Where you new vehicle was made, assembled or manufactured will determine how much and what type of sales taxes and import duties you will pay

How can you determine the V.I.N. of your vehicle? That is easy if have ready access to your registration and insurance documentation. If not, or if you want to confirm the VIN number assignment you can simply find out your vehicles stamp. Simply look through the windshield on the driver’s side of the auto at the corner of the dash. It should be clearly stamped on a plate attached to the dash. As well that same designation should be clearly listed on your bill of sale. If the 2 numbers do not match if somewhere along the line and chain of command did not detail the V.I.N. of the vehicle this could be big trouble for you in the event of traffic collision or car insurance claim or claims

How to read and decipher Vins – Vehicle Identification Numbers 101.
Look at the first character in the V.I.N vehicle identification number sequence to start
Reading a V.I.N. . This first character designates where the vehicle was built The number 2 indicates that the vehicle was manufactured or assembled in the Dominion of Canada , 1 the United States, 3 down south in Mexico. For foreign made vehicles say Japanese made Honda look for the letter “J”. Find a Honda or Toyota whose V.I.N. starts with the digit “!”. That will indicate to the import tax people that the car’s origins are in the USA – or at least assembled in a “screwdriver factory” somewhere in the US. Good news you’re save big money, off the hop, as opposed to a Honda with a “J” VIN or a foreign “K” Korean originated vehicle marking and designation.

Next the second character in line designates the manufacturer or who built the car. The letter “G: stands for General Motor or G.M. products. Next is the third character – in this example if the number 2 is the third character – this would indicate the Pontiac division of GM. Characters 4 and 5 indicate the car line series, eight represents the body style for example 2 door coupe, 4 door sedan, hatchback. The seventh character indicates the type of safety restraint system that was installed at the factory. Eight character stands for the engine code – each type of engine has its own stamp don’t be confused with the last sequence of numbers – that is between the eighth and final digits. These digits are just filler referred to simply in the automotive trades as a “check digit”

Why all this effort in creating this system and nomenclature of listing and describing each car individually. How else could the automotive trades work if they could not id each and every vehicle separately , track it , keep detailed records and lastly allow you as a car , truck , SUV , Van or motorcycle driver to research the past history of your new found vehicle. Want to import a car truck or S.U.V. or other type of vehicle into Canada. For those nice people at the border, and for registration in your Canadian province – be it Ontario, Manitoba or British Columbia or any of the other Canadian provinces and territories, you will definitely need the VIN registration records and data

motorcycle winter gloves
Leather motorcycle gloves?

I’m looking at buying a pair of motorcycle gloves online for a very close friend of mine. He just bought one this past fall and it’s his winter project for the summer. I bought his leather jacket from a site called Leatherup.com and it a great site. However, I’m very green to the whole “motorcycle” thing. How do I know it’s a really good pair of gloves? He doesn’t race or anything. I just want to get him a really decent pair with good grips that he’ll be impressed when he sees and he’ll know I did the research.

Which pair is the best?

http://leatherup.com/c/Motorcycle-Gloves/2/162.html

Can’t say I would wear any of them to be honest.

The leather looks cheap & thin.

Alpinestar / BKS / Dianese would be the only brands worth looking at to be honest.

HELP!! BMW Headlights Question?

Ok, I have a Black 2008 E90 328i sedan with the sports package paddle shifters (;
I ended up picking the sports package instead of the safety package or premium that includes the Xenon Headlights.
So this is my first BMW im 17 and Im not really familiar with these things.
Idk whats the difference between OEM, Xenon, HID, LED, and Angle eyes.
I dont have the Angel eyes on my car, I have the regular headlamps that are white not yellow.
I want Angle Eye Halo’s on my car so do I just buy the bulb light or do I need a Angle Eye conversion kit?
Which one do I get??

Like the previous chap said:

OEM will depend on what was fitted.
Xenon and HID are often confused. Xenon Filament bulbs are standard halogen bulbs with a bit of Xenon gas to make them a bit brighter and whiter – up to twice as much as standard bulbs. HID uses an electric arc to create a light considerably brighter than halogen, which tends to be whiter – the bulbs are available in various colour temperatures, – 4300K is standard, 5000K is pure white and the higher you go from there you get less light output and bluer light.
Angle Eyes should be standard on your model. You can upgrade them to whiter light versions if you do not like the default yellow look: http://www.hids4u.co.uk/bmw-angel-eyes-led-upgrade-e90-91.html

To the first poster: Angel Eyes cause no glare as they are daylight running light with a pretty low output.
Xenon upgrade bulbs just give slightly more light and slightly whiter light. If the cause glare is is a problem with the headlight housing or aim adjustment.
HID lights can cause glare – but this is generally cheap aftermarket conversions, not decent quality ones or OEM HID lights.

Both Xenon and HID (as long as they are not too blue) give much better driving experience. The whiter light is easier on the eyes, and the more powerful beam picks out the road at longer range. It’s great if you drive at night in areas with animals on the road or similar.

Yamaha Motorbikes

Yamaha Motor Company Limited  is a Japanese motorized vehicle producing company. Yahama Motor is part of the Yamaha Corporation and its headquarter is located in Iwata, Shizuoka. Along with expanding Yamaha Corporation into the world’s biggest piano maker, then Yamaha CEO Genichi Kawakami took Yamaha into the field of motorized vehicles on July 1, 1955.

The company’s intensive research into metal alloys for use in acoustic pianos had given Yamaha wide knowledge of the making of lightweight, yet sturdy and reliable metal constructions. This knowledge was easily applied to the making of metal frames and motor parts for motorcycles. It produces motorcycles, all terrain vehicles, boats, snowmobiles, outboard motors, and personal watercraft.

Yamaha’s first motorcycle was the 1 YA-1, which had a 125 cc, single-cylinder two-stroke engine. It was launched in February 1955 and the bike won its first race, the Mount Fuji Ascent Race, in July 1955. Yamaha continued producing two-stroke engines until it launched the XS-1 in 1969, with a 650 cc two-cylinder four-stroke engine, using expertise that it gained doing engine development work for Toyota. In 1979, the XT500 won the first Paris-Dakar Rally.

In 1994, Yamaha announced the creation of Star Motorcycles, a new brand name for its cruiser series of motorcycles in the American market. In other markets Star motorcycles are sold under the Yamaha brand. today Yamaha produces scooters from 50 to 500 cc, and a range of motorcycles from 50 to 1,900 cc, including cruiser, sport touring, sport, dual-sport, and off-road.

Yamaha has a long racing heritage where it has had its machines and team win many different competitions in many different areas, particularly in motorcycle racing. Yamaha has had great success with riders such as Giacomo Agostini, Bob Hannah, Heikki Mikkola, Kenny Roberts, Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey, Jeremy McGrath, Stefan Merriman, Chad Reed, Valentino Rossi, James Stewart and currently Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies.

They won the supercross championship two years in a row (2008 and 2009) with the YZ 450F (One with Chad Reed, and the other with James Stewart). Yamaha has won a total of 36 World Championships, including 3 in MotoGP and 9 in the preceding 500cc 2-stroke class, and 1 in World Superbike.

Yamaha created the innovations which lead to the modern motocross bike, as they were the first to build a production monoshock motocross bike (1975 for 250 and 400, 1976 for 125) and one of the first to have a water cooled motocross production bike (1977 in works bikes, 1981 in off the shelf bikes).

Since 1962, Yamaha produced production road racing grand prix motorcycles that any licensed road racer could purchase. In 1970, non-factory privateer teams dominated the 250cc World Championship with Great Britain’s Rodney Gould winning the title on a Yamaha TD2.

Motorcycle Payment Calculators

January 28th, 2011 admin No comments

I have no credit, what is my APR?

I am trying to finance my first motorcycle and I am looking around at diffrent bikes, the websites have a payment calculator, but I don’t know what my APR is so I can’t get an accurate payment estiment.

I am leasing a TV from Aarons Sales and lease, I make a payment each month and I have not been late or missed a payment yet, they said it would help build my credit. I just need to know what my APR would be with no Credit?

I live in NC by the way, if it matters, thanks a lot ahead of time.
I am 22 years old, and have a current active drivers license.

You don’t have an APR, unless you’ve been approved for a loan already. The APR is the annually adjusted rate of interested you would be paying on a loan. The APR is determined by the bank who is lending you the money.

If you have no credit, you will have a very hard time obtaining a loan for a motorcycle. If you do obtain one, it will likely have a very high interest rate, my guess being anywhere from 10%-30% APR.

Your best bet is a credit-worthy co-signer. Would a parent or anyone else with established credit be willing to put his/herself on the line for your debt? If you cannot obtain a co-signer, try working with a community bank or credit union that you have a checking or savings relationship with. They MAY be willing to assume the risk.

Otherwise, ask a motorcycle dealer if they offer in-house financing. Ask them what the APR/terms would be for someone with no credit.

Even if you don’t have a specific bike in mind yet, a bank can run a “pre-approval”, which would determine what amount you could qualify to borrow, what the APR would be on the loan, and how many years they would give you to pay it off.

Hopefully this gives you somewhere to start!

harley davidson motorcycle blue book
Is there a site like the Blue Book that will tell value of MOTORCYCLES?

www.kbb.com is great for other cars, but I need to know the value of a motorcycle, a Harley-Davidson. Is there a website that will tell the value if you input make, model, year, miles, condition, etc.?

They have a site for motorcycles too. See below
